In 2006, David Stone, theatrical producer of the Broadway musical, Wicked, was inspired to make Wicked “greener” after seeing “An Inconvenient Truth.” He asked the show’s company manager, Susan Sampliner, to work with everyone on-stage, backstage and in the theater to find creative ways to reduce Wicked’s environmental impact. Their solutions were so successful that the Broadway Green Alliance was created, an industry initiative that educates, motivates, and inspires the entire theatre community and its patrons to adopt environmentally friendlier practices.
During this one-of-a-kind experience, students will get a rare look behind the scenes on Broadway to learn how Wicked’s Green for Good initiative was adopted by other musicals. Students will be encouraged to explore ways that they can make impactful and environmentally-friendly choices in their homes, classrooms, and communities. During the post-event activity, students will be able to work together to earn the official “Green for Good” certificate.
