In August of 2019, the Alaska Zoo will mark 50 years since the Alaska Zoom (then the Alaska Children's Zoo) opened its doors to its first animals and visitors. Since then, as the only zoo in Alaska, it has care for orphaned and injured wildlife and provided quality education and conservation programs to countless visitors. Today it is home to more than 100 birds and mammals and has the widest variety of animals native to the state of Alaska as well as exotic animals such as Amur Tigers, Bactrian camels, and yaks.

Mission Statement

The Alaska Zoo is dedicated to promoting conservation of Artic, Sub-Artic and like Climate species through education, research and community enrichment.
